Awful, awful, awful!!!!! August 31, 2010 Brian J. Johnson (Pittsburgh, PA USA) What a terrible product. I've had to have this replaced twice! It just dies (blank screen, starts getting incredibly HOT. Most of my trouble has been when i try to connect it to my Pioneer receiver. I do like that you can see what's playing on each channel as you scroll through. Reception is terrible. You would basically have to have this exposed to the sky 100% of the time! It will NOT work in the car without the external antenna. When connected to the car stereo, the volume output is terrible. Have to crank the stereo all the way up to hear it at all. TERRIBLE......DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!
The Other Reviews Made Me Worry... August 30, 2010 Harold D. Stoner (Danville. CA) The other reviews made me worry but I bought it anyway. I am so glad I did! With this product and a few accessories (home kit, car kit, earphone antenna) you can drive, hike, or sit at home and hear GREAT XM radio. I even bought it used (through Amazon) and saved a little money.Pioneer GEX-XMP3 Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver w/ Home Kit
Unreliable, disappointing product August 5, 2010 Donald Foisy (Glendale, RI, US) Nothing but problems from the start. I got the XMP3 radio on Christmas 2009 to replace my XM2GO unit that I had for 3 years. From the start I was unable to hook up the unit to my home reciever due to poor signal quality in my area and an antenna that was not long enough to reach from the only window in my house that actually got a signal. So immediately I had to purchase an additional FM signal repeater so that I could broadcast from the unit to my reciever. After that massive dissapointment, I turned to the issues with the car dock. My original XM2GO unit was able to broadcast the signal on an FM channel, and then I simply tuned my car radio to the correct station to listen to XM. Thanks to the new FCC regulations, Pioneer reduced the broadcast signal so much that the only way that I could listen to XM in my car was to hold the unit directly against my car antenna. Not really possible to do while sitting in the car, nevermind driving. So I then again had to purchase an additional kit to connect the XM antenna directly to my car radio. So now that I could actually listen to the radio after spending an additional $150, I figured that I would try to record some programming overnight to listen to the next day. Even after setting the unit to record the same channel, at the same time everyday, it was 50/50 if the unit would actually record anything. Some mornings I would find that the program recorded fine, while other random mornings, it would not. At this point now, it won't record at all. At least I still can use it as an MP3 player, right? Well Now (7 months after I got it) I have the dreaded power up death screen whenever the unit is not in the home or car dock. The really nice thing about the power up death is that sometimes I can listen to it for 30 minutes before it goes into the infinite loop of power-up power-down cycles, while other days I'm lucky to get 5 minutes in before it starts. Kind of keeps things exciting since you really never know what you're going to get from this unit day to day. Now it is a non-portable XM radio, with a portable price tag. I am now going to attempt to get a warranty replacement from Pioneer, but even a with a new unit, you never really know how long it will last before this common problem happens again. I have never had any good experiences with any of Pioneer's products, and this one is no exception. The quality of thier electronics is extremely poor and very overpriced.
Worthless! Keeps burning up. July 27, 2010 Shannon M Wise I bought my FIRST Pioneer GEX-XMP3 in July 2009. I was able to use it for about 3 months before it burned up. What I mean is that the radio was too hot to hold. I had to pull it out of the dock, pull the battery out, and let it cool down before I was able to try using it again. Unfortunately, the heat destroyed the unit. Pioneer, to their credit, honored their 12 month warranty. I shipped the radio (with out battery, charger, dock, etc.) to Pioneer in Long Beach, CA., and got my replacement radio in about three weeks. I wish that this was the end of the story. About 2 1/2 months later, the same thing happened; radio burned up, shipped it back, got a replacement. I began thinking that the problem was not in the radio, but in either the battery, or the charger. I asked Pioneer to replace them (since I bought everything from Pioneer), but they refused saying that the warranty only covers the radio. And, the technician (who I was allowed to speak with) told me that the charger and battery wouldn't cause the radio to burn up. The second replacement radio burned up after another 2 1/2 or 3 months of use. Same thing; squabble about battery/charger, return radio only, replacement received. Now, the third replacement has burned up, and I sent it to Pioneer, just as I did the other 3 times, but this time, they are saying that they never received it. I've got to deal with the Post Office now, but I think that my adventures with the Pioneer GEX-XMP3 will end up as a $200.00 lesson, and nothing else. I don't think I'll get another replacement since I only sent it via Priority Mail; no delivery confirmation, or insurance--that's my mistake. I cannot stress enough, "DO NOT BUY THIS RADIO!!!"
Great Radio!! Recieved First Class Customer Service from Pioneer!! July 21, 2010 Mark C. Wooldridge I gave my wife a Pioneer GEX-XMP3 radio last summer as an anniversary gift. She loves using both in the car and at home. It worked flawlessly until shortly after the one-year warranty expired when the system got stuck in the "Powering up" mode. Searching online, I discovered that is a known software glitch that affects some units. After reading reviews on Amazon and elsewhere from a few disgruntled owners I was unsure about the customer service I would receive from Pioneer. I am happy to report, though, that Pioneer responded to my customer service email VERY PROMPTLY. They told me that there was NO PROBLEM in exchanging it FOR A NEW UNIT even though it was out of the warranty period!!! Pioneer has earned my respect and loyalty for the customer service I have received!!!
